Benton County Receives COVID-19 Vaccine

Benton County Public Health (BCPH) has received an allocation of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine for persons in Phase 1-A. This phase includes individuals working in healthcare [st]tings who have the potential for direct or indirect exposure to patients or infectious materials. Qualifying individuals in this phase and future phases are determined by Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) at the federal level and Iowa Disease Advisory Council (IDAC) at the state level.

LSI now providing Family Support Program in Vinton

Lutheran Services in Iowa (LSI) will now provide the Early Childhood Iowa Family Support Program to eligible families in the Vinton area. The program was formerly offered by Horizons – A Family Service Alliance in Vinton, but transitioned to LSI earlier this year. LSI has taken steps over the last six months to formally transition the program.The name of the program is also transitioning to Healthy Opportunities for Parents to Experience Success (HOPES).

Overdose Deaths Accelerating During COVID-19 Expanded Prevention Efforts Needed

 Over 81,000 drug overdose deaths occurred in the United States in the 12 months ending in May 2020, the highest number of overdose deaths ever recorded in a 12-month period, according to recent provisional data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). While overdose deaths were already increasing in the months preceding the 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, the latest numbers suggest an acceleration of overdose deaths during the pandemic.

Lottery Tickets should be sent to P.O. Box 7 not given to the children

ASAC requested that the following news release should be run before Christmas. The idea is to encourage adults NOT to give lottery tickets to children for the holidays. ISU & Farm Foundation offer Wellness Resources for Benton Co. Farm Families

Pre-paid, ongoing wellness coaching and counseling services are now available to Benton County farm families. Families can get confidential support for a variety of life events via phone, text, live chat, video or app—in addition to existing sources of 24/7 help. Coaching and counseling will be provided through Personal Assistance Services (PAS), which has been engaged to deliverits wide range of services directly to Iowa farm families.

PRZ/Peer Support Recovery Calendar of Events

Peer Support Recovery Vinton or PRZ is located at 811 D Ave. in the Access Center and will meet on Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.Who we help: Anyone 18 years or older who are in mourning, isolated, depressed, lonely, manic, anxious, angry or anything else.PRZ is a place for adults living with mental illness. Simply put, this is a fun and safe place to come and socialize with but also gain support from peers.

Free Resilience Program Helping Iowa Families Manage Stress

Developed in response to a recent Iowa parent survey conducted by the nonprofit Worldmaker International, the organization is providing free resilience education this month to Eastern Iowa families. The Pandemic Parenting project is funded by a 2020 CARES Act grant. According to the more than 580 parent survey responses, parents reported that their top challenges are supporting their child’s social and emotional well-being, dealing with changes in schooling, and managing their child’s screen time.

LIVE HEALTHY IOWA OPENS REGISTRATION FOR 20TH ANNIVERSARY CHALLENGE

Live Healthy Iowa's 10 Week Wellness Challenge, proudly sponsored by Iowa Food & Family Project, has opened registration for its 20th year. The Challenge, slated for January 11-March 19, 2021, encourages Iowans to make healthy choices through a fun, friendly competition. The challenge is simple and affordable at just $22 per participant. Over the course of 10 weeks, teams (2-10 people) track activity minutes and/or weight loss through Live Healthy Iowa's website or mobile app.
